Some sad news: Dr. Dennis Buegue of the University of Wisconsin - Madison, and lead researcher in the 2000 "Alternative Meats" study, passed away on October 3, 2006. He spoke at the 2006 AEA convention about how emu meat fared in the study.
I also had the opportunity to interview him in his laboratory a couple of days after the convention. I am truly honored that he granted an interview, which will be a great asset to the film. We offer our condolances to his family, friends, colleagues, and students. - Alan Zansler

We will be attending the American Emu Association convention in Madison, Wisconsin in July. Director Alan Zansler will be giving a presentation on the progress of the film on Friday, July 14, at 3:45 PM.
We also plan to release a short film for emu farmers to play at farm and trade shows. Contact us for more information.

Since we could not find any farmers hatching anywhere in the Southern region this season, we thought this was the best way to capture on film the beginning of an emu's life. We successfully hatched 7 of 8 emu eggs in February. We hope to post some video to the site soon.
Special thanks to Myra Charleston of Red Oak Farm in Trezevant, TN (www.redoakfarm.com) for the eggs and Wayne Plauche of Carencro, LA for the incubator and hatcher, and also for giving the chicks a new home.
